Spinal Pain Low back pain is one of the most common conditions seen by medical professionals. There are many causes and treatments for low back pain as it  a complex area of the body. Symptoms can vary from mild back ache through to severe pain that radiates down the leg. As a general rule bed rest is no longer recommended for back pain but a reduction in activity levels can sometimes be helpful along with doing some exercises. The exercises that you should do will depend on the type of back pain that you have, what’s good for some back pain conditions may make other types of back pain worse. Similarly neck pain can range from mild neck ache through to severe pain that radiates into the arm or head. There can be many causes ranging from postural problems whilst working at a desk all day to injury such as whiplash. The spine is a complex structure and pain can arise from muscles, disks, joints, nerves or a combination of the above. Occasionally pain in the back can arise from other structures such as kidneys or other internal organs. Referral onto the necessary specialists is required for these problems.
